Paint It Red!

When we first moved in to our house, the front door was painted terracotta... yes you read that right.

It. was. awful.

That was when I discovered Minwax's Gel Stain and I changed the door color to a dark, wood like brown and it was a HUGE improvement.

But over the years, between the crazy Indiana weather (we had an F4 tornado go right in front of our house), dog scratches and furniture bumps...the have taken their toll on my door.

The SHAME!

At the Haven Conference, I was lucky enough to meet the folks at Modern Masters.  I knew all about their metallic paints, because I had just ordered a champagne metallic paint to re-do an old vanity.  I had no idea that they made so many other great products.  The gentleman at the booth told me to pick out a front door paint color and they'd send it to me to try.  There were so many colors to choose from!

Do I go with brown or black to stay in my comfort zone?

Do I break free and do something completely different?

I was ready to settle on a dark brown, but my eyes kept moving to one of the prettiest deep red colors that I had ever seen.  I went for it!  And last week in the mail I received my Passionate Red Front Door Paint!

First, I taped all of my glass edges and my door handle.

Next, I opened up the Front Door Paint and gave it a good stir.  Make sure you mix it up really well so that it's a nice and even consistency.  I didn't use a roller, just a brush... and I painted on the first coat.

I won't lie... I was nervous here.  Look how streaked it was and you can see every brush mark.  Modern Masters says that it only takes 2 coats of this paint for the perfect finish and at this point, I was just about to call them liars... I didn't though, and I waited the recommended 1 hour before starting the 2nd coat.

What a difference!!  All of the brush marks faded away and honestly, this door looks like it came straight from the factory painted red.

Here are some after shots from outside.

Thanks to the AWESOME people at Modern Masters for this great paint!  I absolutely could not be happier!  The best part is, I still have about 3/4 of the quart of paint left.  Plenty to rock my patio door as well!

You can buy Front Door Paint from Modern Masters several places.  Lowe's and Home Depot both carry it online or you can go to Modern Masters website directly.

You can also pick it up at Amazon!

Make your home your own and be fearless!
